I filmed my recent one-day trip to Paris retracing the childhood footsteps of an American heiress — my husband’s great-grandmother, Alberta Sturges — one of the young women who would later become known as a Dollar Princess.
Long before titles or aristocratic marriages, she was twelve years old, living in Paris, skating on balconies, visiting royal tombs, and writing it all down in her diary.
This short film follows that diary — and my footsteps — through the Paris she knew:
the addresses she lived at, the balcony where she skated for two hours, the tomb she described as “the prettiest,” and the sweet shop she said sold “the best kind.”

It’s a quiet, atmospheric walk through Paris — seen first through the eyes of a young American girl, and then again more than a century later. xx Julie
