LIVE in 1 Hour: Gilded Age Fashion, House of Worth & Alberta’s Dress
My fellow Gilded Age obsessives,
I’m going LIVE in one hour — 6:00 p.m. British Summer Time / 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (New York) — with Elizabeth L. Block, author of Gilded Age Fashion.
Elizabeth also writes the wonderful Gilded Age Fashion , and together we’ll be discussing her new book, my forthcoming book Secrets of an English Manor House, and one of the most exciting stories from the archives:
Alberta’s House of Worth gown — the extraordinary dress belonging to our American heiress, Alberta Sturges Montagu.
I’ll be sharing what has happened to the gown, the conservation process, and its recent return from the Royal School of Needlework, where it has undergone specialist restoration. I collected it just over a week ago, and it is now on display at Mapperton House.
We’ll talk fashion, heiresses, restoration, archives, and the hidden stories stitched into these remarkable garments.
Join us live in an hour — I’d love to see you there. xx Julie

Where do I go to watch?
Julie, have you considered having someone make a copy of one of Alberta’s dresses for you to wear? Obviously the originals are too delicate to wear.
