The Rise of Steam: How Gilded Heiresses Travelled

A sneak peek at what's to come

Dear wonderful readers,

I’ve been wanting to share this with you for a while, and I’m so pleased that now is the right moment.

Over the past several months, I’ve been building a growing archive of filmed episodes exploring the lives, fortunes, scandals, triumphs, and contradictions of the women we now call the Gilded Heiresses.

Until now, these short films have premiered on the Gilded Heiresses YouTube channel.

But I’ve decided to bring them to you first!

Substack subscribers will now receive each new Gilded Heiresses video one full week early, delivered straight to your inbox and complete with rich imagery, historical context, and deeper commentary to accompany the film itself.

To mark the beginning of this new rhythm, today’s episode comes from the archives. It’s a little preview of what’s to come.

Think of it as opening a drawer we’ve kept carefully closed, and inviting you to look inside.

Here’s what you can expect going forward:

• New Gilded Heiresses videos every other week
• Early access exclusively for Substack subscribers
• Episodes enriched with photographs, documents, and historical detail
• A growing visual archive to sit alongside our written work

Gilded Heiresses is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

This shift allows us to slow the pace just enough to do these stories properly and to give each episode the space, texture, and attention they deserve.

If you’ve ever wished you could step inside the world of the Gilded Age rather than simply read about it, this is where that begins!

I’m so glad you’re here for it.

With love,
xxJulie

P.S. If you’re joining us through the archives today, you’re seeing the beginning of a much larger story. New films will begin rolling out every other week from February…and Substack is now their first home.
