Tomorrow I Shall Be Twenty-Two and Ignorant
From the unpublished diaries of Alberta Sturges, an American Heiress
September 16th, 1899. Ridgely Manor, Stone Ridge, New York. Alberta Sturges is on the eve of her twenty-second birthday, and she opens her diary with eight words that stop you cold:
“Tomorrow I shall be twenty-two and ignorant.”
And then, in the very next sentence, the reason for hope:
“But Swami is here, and we have had long glorious talks.”
